The Result of the 1. round.

Total number of parliamentary representatives are 386.

176 representatives are elected in individual constituencies, 152 in county and metropolitan constituencies (territorial constituencies henceforth) on lists. On the basis of nationally aggregated votes not receiving a mandate in the individual and territorial constituencies a further  58 compensation mandates are to be filled from the national lists of the parties.

Parliamentary elections are of two rounds. The first round is to be on May 10, 1998, the second two weeks later, on May 24, 1998.

In the case of Individual Constituencies
- the election round is valid and with result, if more than half of the voters eligible to vote ( more than a quarter during the second round) have cast their vote, and one of the candidates has received more than a half of the votes cast ( the candidate with the most votes in the second round).

- the election round is valid and without result, if more than half of the voters eligible to vote (more than a quarter during the second round) have cast their vote, and none of the candidates has received more than a half of the votes cast (the candidates have received equal number of votes in the second round).

- the election round is invalid, if one half, or less of the voters eligible to vote had turned out to vote (one quarter of the voters, or less in the second round).

The parliamentary individual constituency electoral committee aggregates the votes on the basis of the official reports prepared by the returning boards and determines the  constituency result of the election, which it records in its minutes.

A candidate receiving more than one half of the valid votes, or the most valid votes shall become parliamentary representative of the individual constituency.

In Territorial Constituencies
- the election round is valid, if more than one half ( more than one quarter during the second round) of the voters eligible to vote have cast their votes,

- the election round is invalid, if one half, or less ( a quarter, or less thereof in the second round) of the voters eligible to vote have cast their votes.

The National Electoral Committee determines the  percentage boundary( threshold) required to be reached in order to receive a mandate on the basis of the minutes of the territorial electoral committees, and also the specific territorial lists to receive mandates. The territorial electoral committees use this data to determine the   result of the territorial constituency election, which they record in their minutes.

Candidates on the party lists receive mandates according to the proportion of votes cast on the given list, in the order they appear on the list.

At the central level the National Electoral Committee aggregates the surplus votes cast on individual constituency candidates and also on the lists on the basis of the individual constituency and territorial list official reports. It determines  who is to receive a mandate from among the candidates on the national lists on that basis.

Candidates on the national lists receive mandates according to the proportion of nationally aggregated surplus votes, in the order of their notification.
